The Dominican Republic Islands along with the capital Punta Cana are considered a safe destination for LGBTQ+ tourists. However, while the Dominican Criminal Code does not expressly prohibit homosexuality or cross-dressing, it also does not address discrimination or harassment on the account of sexual orientation or gender identity, nor does it recognize same sex unions in any form. LGBTQ+ people tend to face no discrimination issues in resorts and very touristic areas.
